Pastor: Rev. Ellen Schippert
Email Pastor: Rev. Ellen

I have had the privilege of serving as the pastor of Forester United Methodist Church since July 2007.   Over the years I have served God and the church in a variety of ways both as a baptized Christian and professionally. (My professional background is included below.)

I came into pastoral ministry later in life and am very interested in connecting with people who may be questioning, hurting, and/or searching. At some time this includes each one of us. I encourage you to seek God with all your heart, come to know and accept Jesus Christ as Lord of your life, live a transformed life through the power of the Holy Spirit, and share your faith with others both in what you say and what you do.  I hope this doesn’t sound overwhelming and it can feel that way at times but God will meet you wherever you are and in whatever circumstances you find yourself.  I know.  God has met me in a variety of likely and unlikely places along life's path.  God will also give you all you need to live this Christian life.  Remember, our life with God is a journey we take at our own pace, one step at a time.

Yes, you have decisions to make but you are not alone.  There are others on the journey.  That’s where the church, the family of God, comes in.  If you live in this area and do not have a church home or if you are visiting the area come check us out.  We may just be what you've been looking for and didn't even know it!   I and our whole church look forward to welcoming you!

Grace and peace on the journey,
Pastor Ellen

Some Background
Growing up I loved to build and create imaginary houses, villagas out of Lincoln Logs, and whole cities in the sandbox. Not surprisingly I was first educated and trained as an architect. (Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Science Kent State University, Kent, OH.) I practiced architecture for many years and still take on small projects.  Before I established my own firm (Schippert & Associates, LLC), I worked with Habitat for Humanity in Detroit and in Mexico (Anahuac, Chihuahua and Mexico City). With Habitat my primary work was in community organizing and project development.

From Mexico my husband Fred and I moved to our current home, a farmhouse not far from the church which we have spruced up and added on to.  Several years later I began working with church clients and returned to school part-time to learn better how to do that work. (Institute for Liturgical Consultants, Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, IL and Ecumenical Theological Seminary, Detroit, Master of Divinity.) I specialized in working with congregations by facilitating the decision making process that accompanies church renovation and building projects.

Then God spoke a new word OR I was able to hear the same word anew!. It was not like when God called creation into being (Genesis 1), nor was it similar to the Lord speaking to Moses from the mountain (Exodus 19:3-6). I heard nothing audible.  Instead I heard God in the stillness of my soul (Psalm 46:10) calling me to take a new path and to build in a new way. I responded and was appointed to the Forester United Methodist Church as a part-time local pastor.  I continue to consult professionally with churches and am pursuing United Methodist studies (Asbury Theological Seminary extended learning campus).  My hobbies include gardening and painting.
